Privacy policy

This page explains what the CloudLauncher service stores about you, why, and what you can do about it. CloudLauncher has no ads, no analytics and no trackers, and your data is never sold.

Who runs CloudLauncher

CloudLauncher and its online service are run by falling_colud, an independent developer, who is the data controller for the service. Contact: [email protected].

What is stored when you use the service

  • Your account. Username, e-mail address, a salted hash of your password (never the password itself), when you accepted the terms and which version, and whether you are an administrator.
  • Google sign-in. If you sign in with Google, the service receives your Google account ID and e-mail address. It does not ask Google for your name or photo.
  • Sign-in sessions. Hashed session tokens, so you stay signed in, with their expiry dates.
  • What you upload. Instances and their files, hosted mods, worlds, resource packs, shader packs and config sets, with their names, descriptions and images. Worlds can contain the names and IDs of players who joined them.
  • Sharing. Who you share things with, your teams, invitations and share links.
  • Activity. A feed of changes to things you own or share (for example "a new version was uploaded"), kept for up to one year.
  • Server logs. For every request: IP address, time, the address requested, the result and the app version. Kept for up to 30 days to keep the service running and to deal with abuse.

What stays on your PC

The launcher keeps its settings, your Minecraft accounts, instances, logs and caches on your computer. Sign-in tokens are encrypted with Windows' per-user data protection. None of this is sent to the service unless you upload or share it.

Services the launcher talks to directly

To install and run Minecraft, the launcher connects straight to other services, which see your IP address and apply their own privacy policies: Microsoft, Xbox Live and Mojang (Minecraft sign-in and game files), Modrinth and CurseForge (mods and modpacks; some requests go through the CloudLauncher server instead), Adoptium (Java), the Forge, NeoForge and Fabric download servers, and any image hosts used in mod descriptions.

Why the data is used

  • To run the service you signed up for: your account, syncing, sharing and updates (performance of a contract, GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)).
  • To keep the service secure and working, prevent abuse and fix problems (legitimate interests, Art. 6(1)(f)).
  • To meet legal obligations, if any apply (Art. 6(1)(c)).

There is no automated decision-making or profiling.

Who else handles it

  • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure hosts the server and its storage, in Frankfurt, Germany.
  • Cloudflare delivers the website and sees the requests made to it.
  • Google, only if you choose Google sign-in.

Some of these companies may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where they do, they rely on the safeguards the GDPR requires, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.

How long it is kept

Account data and uploads are kept until you delete them or your account. When you delete your account, it is removed from the service straight away, together with everything you own; files that nobody else uses are deleted from storage shortly after. Server logs are kept for up to 30 days and the activity feed for up to one year.

Your rights

You can ask to access, correct, delete or move your data, and to restrict or object to how it is used. Most of this is built into the launcher:

  • Download your data: Account, then Download my data.
  • Delete your account: Account, then Delete account.
  • Change your username: Account, then Change username.

For anything else, e-mail [email protected]. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority, in Italy the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (garanteprivacy.it), or the authority where you live.

Children

You need to be at least 14 to create an account, or older if the law where you live requires it. Younger players need a parent or guardian to set up and manage the account.

Cookies

This website sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. The launcher is a desktop app and does not use cookies either.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new date. Important changes are also announced in the launcher.
